Defragment Your Installation
Greetings Friend
Oblivion has a fetish for harddrives. Being the game that it is, it loads a lot of data off the drive and into RAM on-the-fly. As you're walking around the game quite a few things are loaded that don't pull up a loading screen. As such your harddrive (and RAM) need to be in fighting condition.
Download Contig from Sysinterals and use it to defragment your Oblivion folder. It's free, and a wonderful tool. Do this to check how fragmented the folder is:
contig.exe -a -s "D:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\*"
And then defragment:
contig.exe -s "D:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\*"
My folder was at 43 frags/file, and contig reduced it to 1. I say the calls for a level up!
